Direction forward in a multi-dimensional world?

Something dawned on me soon after 2008 began - and unlike a thousand other revelations I have and leave behind a couple of days later, this one somehow sticked with me a bit longer (discontinuously, of course - see previous post - but still...). I get the distinct impression that I'm growing out of things. Out of some things, at least (a sort of "pe ici pe colo, si anume în punctele esentiale":P).

And I'm thinking... Is this a sign of progress? Feels like it. Should be one. On the other hand... In our 3D world, when there are at least 360 different straight lines to follow from any given point (this before adding millions of winding paths, ups and downs, and a fourth coordinate - time)... isn't "forward" becoming a rather relative concept? And who's to say you started from the right point anyway?

Probably another proof of how confused (read "screwed up") I am :))
